Naturally Popular

So let me just clarify that when I say “cleanse” I mean “vitamin supplements and steamed broccoli” not “starvation and ass vacuums.”

I have had several friends do variations on both, and I am nowhere near hard-core enough (and also too self-conscious about said ass) to go to that extreme. I’m not even interested in losing weight. I just want to get out of this rut of crappy eating. After a week of eating decadent food and ordering two desserts every night (it was all-inclusive, how are you NOT going to get mousse AND chocolate fudge cake if it’s available?) I have kind of developed an addiction to very-buttery-and-salty-things and also refined sugar. I find myself craving it, to the point of driving to the store for a) more cupcake mix b) candy bars.

I feel gross. And while you might say, “Why don’t you just stop eating French fries and candy bars?” I will say, “Because it’s not as dramatic and hippy-sounding as saying ‘cleanse.’”

Speaking of hippies (not really) are any of you on BlogExplosion? Can you tell me why a 16-year-old girl who posts her (inane) Twitter comments on her blog gets more votes than I do on Battle of the Blogs? I am assuming it is because she paid all the girls in her class with their own inane Twitter blogs to vote for her, and not because “Yo, algebra blows” is actually more entertaining than all my wishy-washy thoughts on potatoes?

Anyone?

She probably got more votes BECAUSE she's 16 and thinks "lyke omg, im soo popular. u ALL hav 2 vote 4 me."

Good way to still get sweet and salty? Rice cakes. Flavored ones. YUM! And wayyyyy less calories!

Read the book The Sugar Solution.

16 year old girls don't eat potatoes, do they (unless they're french fried?) and not when they're twittering (SUCH a descriptive word!)

I was a hippy and I never cleansed - the two words were mutually exclusive back then.

Blog explosion scares the bejeebus out of me, Princess. I have joined, but OMG it is over-frickin-whelming! And now, that deal about some teenage popularity...makes me think it is perhaps not such a great deal!

As for the cleanse...I forgot to mention that I do the teas in conjunction with a cabbage soup regime, so it is like what you were after. Cabbage soup regime is a diet, but I can never stick to it for a full week like you're supposed to - but a day or two and it works it's magic ;) I do feel more healthful after I do those cleanses, but for some reason I don't do them nearly as frequently as I should.

Wow, I completely forgot about Blog Explosion... huh, now that my days are completely empty, maybe I'll wander back over there and see what's going on...

As for the cleanse, I think as long as you do it safely (that is, not starving yourself, and taking supplements) then it could be really good for you. (She says as she heads to the kitchen for a brownie.)

I avoided 16 yr old girls when I was 16, I'm not purposely going places where they hang out now . . .

Feel free to take this with a grain of salt, but these are some things I do to try and get back into a rut of healthy eating:
1. Make a sincere effort to get 5 fruits/vegetables and 3 servings milk per day 2. Avoid buying sweets and bringing them home (or bringing home healthy, low cal sweets) 3. Have a goal in mind. Jason and I really want to do a 5K this summer, plus our bike ride, so I am trying to keep in mind that healthy foods will be the best fuel to help me with that goal (plus, I am taking a trip to my alma mater this summer, and I want to look good in case I run into anyone I know). Our vacation was a great goal and motivator for me, so maybe you need to plan another fun trip! Okay, I think my comment is long enough, but hope that helps somewhat. Good luck!

p.s. I actually tried the Master Cleanse diet (the one Beyonce did) and it actually felt wonderful... I made it to the 7th or 8th day. I don't know if I'd do again though. I love food too much.

I can't stop laughing about the ass vacuums.

My mom used to make me drink raw potato shakes as an intestinal cleanser.
